If you look at the photo of CB&Q 232040 on pg 121 of Spoors color book you can note two of the high maintenance itmes on all riveted tank cars. This one is leaking at the vertical seam on either side of the manway/expansion dome. Old UTLX shop guys told me they sometimes just caulked leaking rivets rather than pull and redo them.
Also it's tank bands on the A end have shifted, they need to be reset and tightened.
 
Anybody know for sure when riveted tanks were bannned by the ICC in interchange ? Early 70s ?
 
The 181 series cars I mentioned were a large group of the sand/cement CHs.............
