Hi Bill,

>From my notes:

The 1962 event sold 3,931 tickets. The final Sunday run (there were two
roundtrips each day) had 1,129 riders on 12 coaches. Article said the Peoria
event beat St. Joseph, Missouri's record of 2,300. The May 13, 1962
newspaper article has a photo of the train but I didn't get a copy. Engineer
was R. P. Haynes.

An interesting tidbit about this first year of Peoria schoolkid specials is
that passengers boarded in Peoria at E. State Street, where Peoria Union
Depot had existed for years. But it was destroyed by fire on August 5, 1961.
CB&Q had moved out its Galesburg-Peoria doodlebug run on June 1, 1952 when
it opened a depot/yard office at the Edmund Street end of its Peoria freight
yard. I guess there was more room to park and board at the old Peoria Union
Depot site than at the Q depot.

In 1963, Saturday trips behind 4960 had 900 and 600 passengers on seven
cars.

An article preceding the 1964 event noted two conventional cars and an
unspecified number of air-conditioned bi-level galley cars would be used. A
photo on page 26 of Mike Spoor's Chicago Burlington & Quincy In Color Vol. 4
shows the westbound train at Elmwood on June 20. There appears to be two
tenders behind the Mikado, but only one conventional (heavyweight) coach.
There are probably a half-dozen stainless steel bi-levels.

Spoor's book, btw, contains a lot of photos and dates for excursions behind
4960 and 5632.

>Thanks for the information. I did not have any of it and have added your
data to the spread sheet. I will be updating the spread sheet in the files
section in the >near future. Do you by any chance have any information
concerning the type of cars used on these train or the number of cars?
