Just got my copy & somehow Randy outdid himself again. One would think after
years of BRHS publications, myriad trade books on the Q (many pictorial), BRHS
calendars as well as MP106's, articles in Trains, etc etc that all the truly
unique photos would have been published. Yet again Randy uneaths ones that
make you say 'where in earth'?
As usual it's 13 months (so you can hang it up today), several color inc. a
gas-electric with trailer in MO & C&S steam but some b/w & sepia photos that
would easily win contests. Hard to say which were more suprising EXCEPT that
after 1000+ photos in the the Waycars book (& more to come in the Drawings book
that I understand ships this week), there are 3 months, including the cover
shot, that are amazing. I asked Randy why these were not in the Waycars book
or at least the drawings book but it turns out these were submitted to him very
recently (despite a plea for waycar photos for several yrs) Oh well, they sure
make this calendar a winner! And as usual I like the fact so many details are
either to one side or background of the subject matter: classic steel Q
watertower with a BR herald, depots, RoW items, unique views of crews and what
has become the obligatory MoW subjects inc. TWO months with steam derricks &
one month with a pair of steam wreckers with a HIGHLY unusual 5 window waycar
(ex-3900 series?) But the winner (one man's opinion) is the very last month
which has a 1920's/30's CB&Q Signal Dept truck laden with 1860 'block' &
crossing signals for a parade! Christmas came early this year - tk Randy for
sharing your own collection inc. Bernie Corbin slides as 3 other contributors.
Gerald
PS - hope one of you folks who 'knows' vintage trucks can ID yr & make of this
one - a sharp broadside.
