John,

Simple one word answer from memory of working on these units 40-44years ago and then climbing up and down them in train service until the paint scheme was gone is NO. See upcomg Zephyr 65 for details.

That's my memory and I'm sticking to it(until proven wrong).

Leo Phillipp

Very persnickety here when attempting to accurately paint and detail CB & Q diesels. So here comes some tedium.

Regarding the blackbird scheme for GP7s, did the bottom red over yellow stripe go into the stairwells just behind the pilot? If so, did it cover 1, 2, or 3 sides of the stairwell?

Now, having inquired regarding tedium, I will volunteer some tedium (yes, I am a rivet counter, and proud of it) which took about six letters to acquire.

Some of you have probably noticed that the Microscale information for decaling E8 units is incorrect because it shows the 2 red side stripes ending before the stripes reach the end of the locomotive. Here's what I learned the hard way: it not only goes to the end corner but wraps around the corner onto the end of the locomotive for about 6" or 8". I finally got this info from an old head who worked in the Galesburg roundhouse.

Understandably, there are not many still photos that show this because most people don't take photos of the ends of the E units. But, if you look closely you can see this is the case on videos of passing E unit-led Zephyr trains.

Will greatly appreciate any information regarding my question regarding the GP7 striping?.. And also welcome any corrections to what I have said. ~ John A. Swearingen, Brookfield, Missouri
