Doug
I was working the Ottumwa Div. when Cargill opened Eddyville. The CNW would not give the service they wanted on the finished product so all they got was the bulk grain inbound and then moved all the finished product to Maxon and gave it to us for the road haul. Each month Cargill hosted a lunch for both the BN and CNW crews that worked that job and sometimes the Dispatchers got invites as well. We went from no interchange to upwards of 30 cars a day as the business built up most going to Calif. It was a matter of getting the crews motivated to move the business the sales and marketing guys were trying to sell. In 1984 Cargil had already purchased the former power plant at Bridgeport and had begun building their complex, along the former M&StL line across the river from Eddyville. The Cargil complex is now served by the BNSF who built a new line in from the south.
