Brian, I', assuming you're talking about the 72'8" cars.  In 1940 there were also some 88'8" cars.
Looking at Randall's Passenger Car Library, I see differences in door size and shape, in placement of roof vents, and in shape of skirting between the 1940 and 48 cars.  There are also differences in some minor things like placement of grabs and number/name boards.

Are there any major differences between the 1940 and 1948 baggage cars? If o how major and what are they? If they are diferent are all the 1948 cars the same?

Thanks,

Brian Durham
