The undersigned,yourself,Scott Shaw and Lew Peshia caught #3 one fine morning with a ridiculous power to tonnage ratio. While I do not recall you stretching the allowable speed limit too much (#3 did run at a higher speed than other frt trains);the excessive power allowed for quick acceleration from braking. We did not stop once in route from Cicero to Savanna and only slowed to p/u a roadmaster at Aurora to ride the w/c on an inspection run.

 

Now think real hard and see if you recall that this was the the spring/summer that the mud was pumping just west of the Pines xing above Oregon to the point that there was several hundred feet where the ties could not be seen ?  No slow order had been issued and you and I decided to make one for the road masters benefit. We slowed to 30 or 40 MPH and asked Lew to let us know when he "was over the slow order". Next day on the eastbound trip there was a new slow order on that stretch of rail.

 

While I'm not inclined to climb up in the attic and find my timebooks I do believe we set or came close to setting a record that day for a Cicero-Savanna run.
