Hi Group sorry for the previous 2 e-mails.  When I pushed the tab key for the first time it sent the message which did not have any text.  So here is a brief history of Denrock without using the tab key.  The Rockford, Rock Island and St. Louis Railroad built a line from East Moline to Sterling in the fall of 1869.  The 64.3 mile line between Mendota and Fulton was built by the Illinois Grand Trunk Railroad and acquired by the Rockford, Rock Island and St. louis railroad on October 7, 1870.  The point where the 2 lines intersected was at first called Burlington Junction.  The location became Denrock when a post office was opened there in 1890.

The curve resulted when train operations began to use the Mendota-Fulton line to run trains northward towards Savanna.  A wye was constructed with the south and west legs serving as the Barstow to Savanna line and the east leg running towards Mendota.  The line to Sterling was changed to run off of the Mendota line with a hand throw switch which was about 1000 feet east of the depot.  The CB&Q leased these lines from February 1, 1877 to June 1, 1899 when the Q was deeded ownership.  For more information see the pea vine book.  Bud Linroth
