I would highly recommend “The Tragedy at the Loomis Street Crossing” to anyone interested in Burlington Route history.  The volume not only records all of the technical and equipment aspects of the Naperville wreck but also adds the human side of the story, not only the crews and passengers but also the eyewitnesses and rescue workers.  Well worth the money.  Ordering instructions were posted earlier on the list if your local bookstore doesn’t have the volume.

Hi Rupert,

Don't know whether or not I forwarded this information to you, but my (our) book (The Tragedy at the Loomis Street Crossing) is in print!  Thank you so much for all the research help you and your colleagues have given me throughout the process of putting the book together!

If I have not previously relayed this information to you, I apologize.  I was very busy with a book tour of Naperville and some of the towns (Galesburg, Burlington, Keokuk) where families of the victims lived.  On the town I uncovered even more fascinating stories from relatives of the victims!  Making additions and corrections costs me several hundred dollars, so it might be some time before I make these additions.  The self Publishing route already has cost me dearly, but the experience of bringing the story of the victims to light already has been well worth the five painstaking years of research.  When I signed a book for the mayor of Naperville, he told me that, because of the book, he felt it was finally time for the city to place a marker at the crash site!  And, when I told relatives of the victims this story, they all told me that, when such a marker is dedicated, they would travel to the site for the dedication!

Rupert, I will keep you and your Burlington friends updated as to the progress of such a dedication ceremony.  I think it would be appropriate to have such a marker unveiled on the anniversary (April 25th) of the tragedy.

Again, thanks for all the help you and your friends have given me along the way.  Please thank them for me.  The book can be ordered from any local bookstore, from Amazon, or from AuthorHouse.com.

I certainly will be interested in hearing comments regarding the book from the Burlington family!

    Sincerely,

    Chuck Spinner

P.S.  I am giving an unveiling of the book here in Jamestown, New York on July 19th, 2012.  I will be giving talks and signings at 9:30am and 6:30pm.  Please spread the word if there are any Burlington train buffs in the western New York area!  I'd love to meet them.
