CB&Q List Members,
Earlier this afternoon Chad Boas confirmed that he will begin casting the CB&Q
53'-6" FM-14 flat cars this week. He is selling them for $15 per flat (same as
he has sold previous flats as I recall) plus shipping. You can contact Chad
directly at chadboas@yahoo.com for more information and to place your order.
As we CB&Q modelers know there have not been to many CB&Q flat car kits
available in recent years so this is a great opportunity to get one or two for
your railroad. Chad has been casting flat cars for the GN, M&StL, MP and
several other railroads and now for the CB&Q. His castings may be viewed on
the Steam Era Freight Car (STMFC) Yahoo site. Chad has become the go to resin
caster for flat cars and he recently completed the castings for the CB&Q 40'
combination door cars of not just the CB&Q but the NP and GN as well. Decals
for the Hill Lines 40' combo door cars can be viewed on Jerry Glow's site.
Jerry is working on a set for the CB&Q FM-14's as well.
We supplied Chad with information from CB&Q diagrams for the FM-14 flats, the
drawings from BB#15 and stencil diagrams from Al Hoffman to use as his
reference material. There are five very nice color photos of FM-14 flat cats
by Paul Winters, Emery Gulash and George Speir available in Mike Spoor's Color
Guide book for reference as well.
In addition to casting these CB&Q flats Chad also cast the necessary sides to
build a very accurate models of the 40' combination door cars not just for the
CB&Q but for the NP and GN as well thus completing the Hill Lines trifecta for
late 50's and early 60's modelers alike.
For more information about the CB&Q FM-14's see the article in BB#15 by Hol
Wagner beginning on page 26 about Bomber Boxes and Mike Spoor's Color Guide on
pages 96-97.
If you should have a photo or know of a source for a photo, especially a
Builders' Photo, of the FM-14 or FM-14A flat cars please contact me.
Later, Dave Sarther Tucson, AZ
