I just got back from my St Louis trip with the return back to Omaha via the St Louis-Hannibal and Quincy-Brookfield route for rail fanning. Thanks for all the info with a special thank you to John Swearingen. He met me in Brookfield and gave me a great tour of the area along with some historical information and a peek at some of his photographs. I caught a couple of coal trains on the Mississippi line, had a great breakfast at the Daybreak in Louisiana before heading to Hannibal. Unfortunately, no trains there (BNSF or NS) but I did find a CB&Q calendar from 1962 (my birth year) in an antique shop! Caught several trains at Bucklin, including the UP Rio Grande heritage unit and a manifest on the Quincy-KC line. Caught up to it later in Brookfield too.
Great weather and a very pleasant drive, especially on MO79, well worth the trip.
