Q freight cars, and those of most other roads, have been painted mineral red, or some similar variant such as oxied red, since the mid-1800s.  And for the same reason barns were traditionally painted that color:  it was the least expensive paint color to produce.

Does anyone know what colour freight cars were painted about 1905?

Thanks
