During my time as a management trainee with Old Ben Coal Co., I was required to "rotate" through the various departments of the company. During my rotation in the traffic department, I met an older man who had been a traveling salesman in the sales department (which by that time had been abolished). His territory had been Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. He said, "I would sell a carload to a grocery store, if I could." That was my favorite rotation, because our main carrier was the BN! I was poking around Trainboard, where a member posts pictures of very old signs, when I ran across one for Stevenson Coal Co. of Central City, Nebraska.
The sign had a picture of a 1930ish dump truck, with Orient Coal sign on it. It also advertised that fact that it came from Franklin County Illinois. The reason I am posting this is that is that it it is a good reference for showing a commodity that that was moved on the Q, from its start point in Southern Illinois, to its end point in Nebraska. __._,_.___
