And MofW gangs sometimes used waycars for bunk cars. In the mid 50's, there was a "Division Weed Mowing Gang" on the Beardstown Division that used a waycar as a bunk car. The train crews weren't the only ones to live out on the road. My sister-in-law was raised on the Burlington. Her dad worked in the MoW department. As a kid her family went on the road wherever her dad was working. She spent a lot of time in Wyoming in the Wind River Canyon area. They had their own bunkcar that was parted wherever the work was and that was their home. When the track work season was over they returned to Lincoln. It is very interesting to hear what she experienced on the Burlington. It isn't always the employee that have good stories. Can you imagine MoW gangs doing that today?
