Those are Allied Full Cushion trucks -- a ride control type truck developed in 1939 and used on the Q's first XM-32 boxcars, including the ones in express service, and also the truck used on the Army kitchen cars that were purchased after World War II and converted into express cars. The Q removed the Allied trucks from all the express cars in the early-mid-1950s and substituted "Bettendorf" style A-3 Ride Control turkcs. The Allied trucks were banned from interchange service in the early 1960s, leaving the Q with a lot of trucks they could no longer use. They put one pair on an NE-12 waycar and another on this one when it received its side door (in 1962?) for use on the Sterling, Colo.-Cheyenne, Wyo. mixed train. That's exactly what I was looking for. What kind of trucks are those? Gloria [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
