Sorry about the delay in replying but I've been away on holiday.
46XXX car could be an XA-10 (46000-46481, built in 1926 from XA-5's, off
roster by 1950) or XA-14A/B/C/D (46500-46999, built in
1937-8 and still in use in 1970) If you haven't any more digits, the XA-10 had
wooden doors and four diagonals to the left of the
doors, whilst the XA-14's had steel doors and two diagonals.
If you can provide a fuller number, I can provide more specific information.
The Freight Car Roster 1875-1970 is to be published as a Bulletin with ORER's
for almost every year. (I haven't found 1886 or 1889
as yet.)
