Jon, A future BHRS Zephyr article will have a little info on how units were shuttled around on the Chicago and Aurora Division and maintenance assignments based on my memories from Eola rdhse 68-72. Bottom line, almost any NW/SW and Geep assigned to Chicago(Cicero) could find it's way to the numerous smaller yards across the Aurora Division so unless someone has the register books for these points specifics are difficult. There was a cascading of responsibilities from Cicero to Eola to outlying points with units being shuttled for inspections/maintenance depending on the local mechanical dept staffing and abilities. Outlying unit assignments changed with the 30 day inspection cycle. As to Rochelle in particular,I may be wrong, but believe in 63-65 all switching there was still being done by the Rockford wayfreight which came down the branch in the early morning hours and then returned to Rockford. It was only after Carnation was built and Del Monte expanded by building 199 that there was round the clock switching service at Rochelle and based there. I believe this happened more toward the later 60s. Leo Phillipp [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
