Number 69 operated at the Sthur Museum for many years at Grand Island NB. My
kids and I rode behind it every time we got home while I was on leave from the
Army. When her flues went south the cost was to high for the museum to repair
her, so they sold her back the WP&Y. Her sister engine #68 was wrecked in a
rockslide and her hulk sat behind the engine house on the WP&Y for many years.
Have to find my WP&Y book to double check my memory, which isn’t the best
anymore. More info to follow hopefully.

I don't know about the 70 but the 69 actually did and does as we speak operate
on the WP&Y....I rode behind the 73 just one month ago...Saw the 69 sitting
outside the shop...Trainmen sez they use it when they run two trains....73 will
handle 6 cars..we had five the day we rode..69 will only handle 4 and requires
a water stop half way up the hill...
We bought a video titled...THE WHITE PASS journey...Lots of good historical
footage of early day operation and steam operation in the 50's

I like to acquire some history on each of the locomotives I model in HOn3
and On3. I have a PFM HOn3 model of C&S 2-8-0 #70, which was the only C&S
narrow gauge oil burner with a tender from CB&Q #537 in Oct 1931. It was
sold to the US Army in April 1943 to be used on the White Pass & Yukon
during WWII and scrapped at Seattle in Jan 1946. What happened to C&S #69
and #70 in Alaska, if they actually made it that far? Did they actually
operate on the WP&Y?
