Hi John,
I'll weigh in here until someone else with other/more information adds their 2
cents......
In looking my library of "Q" books, here is some info that I hope answers your
question.
Firstly, the "Blackhawk" was an overnight train in the 20's & 30's (before the
Zephyrs) between Chicago and the Twin Cities (St. Paul/Minneapolis Minnesota)so
was mostly Pullman accommodations.
This train was named after an Indian chief Blackhawk who was a leader of the
Sauk Indians (Google "Cheif Blackhawk).
In looking in one of Bill Glicks books on Burlington Passenger cars, the info
about the "Blackhawk" train does not list a car named "Blackhawk.
If I recall, this train did have the name "Blackhawk" on the letter boards
above the window.
Now in Burlington Bulletin #17 on office cars, the "Blackhawk" was an office
car built by Pullman in 1903 for then president of the "Q" Perkins. (see page 9
in the Bulletin).
Also in July of 1944 a different Pullman car, the "Robert Peary" that was sold
to the "Q" became the second "Blackhawk" (see page 51 in the Bulletin).
I hope this helps.
