Understood - my late grandmother told me of going thru the Elroy-Sparta, WI section of the C&NW (now a hiking trail) & how conductor would come thru coaches to light kerosene lamps as they went thru the 3 tunnels! Traveling to visit her in laCrosse from E. Dubuque was my 1st train trip via Twin Zephyr Gerald To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com From: ldb53jmb55@charter.net Date: Sat, 14 May 2011 01:59:06 +0000 Subject: [CBQ] Re: In today's Ottumwa Courier When I read this, I thought of my late mother, who died at 96 in 2007. She was a railfan who took me on my first long distance train trip when I was 14 in 1967. We rode round trip on the CB&Q from Aurora,IL to Denver, and as our train pulled into Ottumwa, my Mom recalled her first train trip, also through Ottumwa on the CB&Q, but in 1916! She remained interested in railroads right to the end, and I sure do miss her, and her tails of train travel, on the CB&Q and many other railroads.
