Des Moines and Fort Dodge Railroad Company (Iowa)
Incorporated to purchase the assets of the portion of the Des Moines Valley
Railroad Company [6/1/1864] between Des Moines and Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Purchased the portion of the Des Moines Valley Rail Road Company [6/1/1864]
between Des Moines and Fort Dodge, Iowa from R.W. Hyman, R.C. Greer and J.A.
Johnson, Trustees [10/17/1873] on 11/15/1875.
Leased trackage rights between Tara and Fort Dodge, Iowa, from Iowa Falls
and Sioux City Railroad (Illinois Central) on ~9/1878.
Abandoned line between Tara and Fort Dodge, Iowa, on ~9/1878.
Built from Tara to Clare, Iowa, (7 miles) by ~12/1881.
Built from Clare to Ruthven, Iowa, (48 miles) via Pioneer, Gilmore (Gilmore
City), Rolfe, Plover, Mallard, Curlew, and Ayrshire by ~1882.
Leased to Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company (CRI&P #3)
[6/2-3/1880] on ~1887 for 25 years.
Controlled through majority stock purchase by the Minneapolis and Saint
Louis Railroad Company on ~1904.
CRI&P #3 [6/2-3/1880] relinquished lease on 12/31/1904.
Leased to Minneapolis and Saint Louis Railroad Company on 1/1/1905 for 30
years.
Leased trackage rights between Des Moines and Gowrie, Iowa to Chicago, Rock
Island and Pacific Railway Company (CRI&P #3) [6/2-3/1880] on 1/1/1905.
Basically the RI was asleep at the wheel, let their lease of the DM&FD
lapsed and the M&StL acquired the property.
To answer the question: near as I can tell tracks reached Grand Jct from Des
Moines in 1869, with the depot location laid out in June of 1869.
