Does anyone know of a railroad that had its own equipment, and that was taken over, assimilated, or otherwise merged into the Burlington in about 1915-1916? I'm trying to identify where box cars 145000-145020 suddenly appeared from in 1916 - they were gone by 1920. They were only 35' 6" inside length (and I know of no Burlington box cars of that length) which indicates that they were built prior to about 1902 when 40' became the norm, and the date of their disappearance suggests that they were possibly built around 1890. However, they were 8' 7" wide with an 8' interior height, dimensions that matched the ARA recommended dimensions issued in about 1902. A possibility is ex-furniture cars based on these latter dimensions, but they would have been 40' cars, even if built in about 1890, and the Burlington's furniture cars were not that size. I also doubt that the Burlington would bought these cars so a transfer from a subsidiary company (or a new acquisition) seems the most likely. Any suggestions?
