The remaining stub of the former Charles City Western nee Iowa Terminal (E.
Div) nee Charles City RR is now down to a 1/4 mile of track including the old 4
stall carbarn (plus a 1 track lean-to sans roof) and the yard. Only outlet is
CN (ex-IC) as old interchange with CP (ex-Milw) was cut off by CN. (make no
mistake - competition between CP & CN can be trivial but serious!)

The current owner uses the track & carbarn strictly for storage as the 2 small
businesses among the remaining track have not shipped by rail for decades. In
the past, the 'yard' hosted Silver Solarium (CZ Obsv), now in California?
However among the dozen lwts still stored (various ex-Milw, SAL, SCL, AT&SF
diner, GN dome coach #1320, NP baggage & and an unidentified Q coach) will be 2
Q cars just purchased from somewhere in SW USA.

These are Silver Crown & either S. Gleam or S. Glow. His long range plans are
a RR passenger car museum & possibly some excursion work. He also has a former
MN&S Thrall all-door box & 2 ex-Amt express box cars of different styles for
storage use. Also on the property (stored for a 3rd party) are a Whitcomb
siderod (I'd guess 40-45 ton), the dome-obsv from the C&O "Chessie" the train
that never was) & a two CN or CP cars.

All other CCW track is gone, becoming a bike/hike trail. The old depot still
stands (brick) and the substation was in back portion of the carbarns. At one
time the Cedar Valley RR owned it (operated ex-IC line from Waterloo to Austin,
MN) - this is the 2nd or 3rd owner since.

Anyone know which coach that is @ Charles City? No old name plates to even
make out a 'shadow' of a name or #.

Gerald
