I submitted a lengthy reply to the list when you 1st posted using my May or
June 1912 CB&Q TT as a resource. Gave all the skeds for thru trains to/from
Villisca, Osecola, Creston etc & there indeed some possibilites due to a local
or two as well.

Subject: [CBQ] Could CBQ trains have been ridden by the 1912 Villisca axe
murderer?

In June, 1912, eight people--six of them children--were bludgeoned to death in
their home. The murderer has never been found. Among the suspects was Andy
Sawyer, a pile driver who spoke to and even slept with his axe. In many ways he
was a most compelling suspect, but he was dismissed from consideration early
on. Why? In part because investigators never figured out how he might have left
Osceola around 9 the night before the murders were discovered, arrived in
Villisca, did his deeds, then left Villisca to arrive in Creston by 6 or so the
morning after. I do not have access to train schedules for freights or
passenger trains, but this itinerant train worker would probably have known how
to hop around well enough to cover his tracks. Does anyone have access to old
timetables or train schedules that would help me construct scenarios for how he
might have fooled everyone?

PS--There were many murders along the railroad line extending from Chicago
through Kansas City and finally to Colorado Springs during this time period. A
person savvy with how train schedules worked could be America's first serial
murderer.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Best--Dr. John Van Ness
Churdan, Iowa
