Cross-posting to the CB&Q list.... Rich Gortowski asked on the Passenger Car List where did the ice come from that was used at 14th Street to ice the Dinkies? I wonder if the plant at Clyde was used to supply Chicago (and Aurora and I suppose Downers Grove when it was in use) with ice? I imagine that it was mechanically produced in later years but it triggers the question where did the CB&Q harvest ice when natural ice was the major source of refrigeration? Charlie Vlk ----- Original Message ----- From: rgortowski@aol.com To: PassengerCarList@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2010 4:19 PM Subject: Re: [PCL] Yet another concept in the passenger yard Bob, In many photos of Chicago Union Station (CUS) you can see the CB&Q's bulk propane tank, the individual bottles, and a string of the old, non-revenue, ice reefers which are now company ice cars for icing the commuter cars. I wonder where that ice came from? Rich G. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
