Here's a couple more tidbits from E W Hicks "History of  Kendall 
County"(Illinois) dated 1877.
 
While I think most of us our familiar with the huge aggregate  business on 
the Fox River Branch out of Sheridan,Wedron, Yagan Pit and Ottawa a  very 
early shipping point for silica sand was Millington !  Reported to be  about 4 
car loads/day going to Ohio for glass making. 
Also while not new to me the ice houses at Yorkville may be  new to some. 
Reported in the book to ship 30 tons/day to Chicago in the  summertime.
