I am in the process of collecting pictures, information, and data for a book to
be called "The Chippewa Valley Line." It will chronicle the Milwaukee Road
trackage from Wabasha, Minnesota to Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
with a branch to Menomonie. Trevino, Wisconsin is where the Milwaukee Road and
Chicago, Burlington and Northern crossed in 1884. The Milwaukee built first,
in 1882. So the Milwaukee got to "call the shots" regarding agreements. By
courtesy of Ted Schnepf, I have access to several of those agreements. Here is
a letter regarding the building of the station in 1886.

Here's an interesting tidbit about the depot from 1947:
1947?About 200 pounds of LCL were interchanged at Trevino which the Milwaukee
figured could be interchanged somewhere else, such as Winona. About the only
carload interchanging there was coke, 15 cars in 1945 and 17 in 1946 and that
could be maintained using an interchange track, which would not require station
facilities. In 1947 the CB&Q sent a bill to the Milwaukee for $2216.86 for
repair of the depot and facilities including a concrete foundation around the
depot, footings for girder column supports, new concrete floor in the freight
house, resurfacing the brick platform, etc. claiming that the Milwaukee had use
of the joint station facilities since 1912 and contributed greatly to the wear
and deterioration. The Milwaukee countered by offering to sell its ½ share of
the facilities for $2216.86 but the Burlington refused the offer, contending
that the Milwaukee's investment was only $1,115.73. However, on September 1,
1948 the Milwaukee Road sold is share of the depot, platform, outhouse, and
coal shed to the CBQ for $2,216.86, but not the right-of-way. The Milwaukee
then leased the r-o-w to the CBQ for $1 per year plus paying the taxes and
assessments.
I am looking for pictures of the depot and depot diagrams. Anyone have any??
Any other information or data would be much appreciated.
Also, what's the origin of the word "Trevino"?
Thanks!!
