This is the Q's so called "Suburban Service" paint scheme. It was applied to the rebuilt 7100 series coaches when they were rebuilt for commuter service with vestibules and air conditioning. These preceded the Budd Bi-Levels slightly, starting in 1949. This was the first application of the "ribbon style" lettering (I believe). There was a contest to choose this paint scheme. I saw one of the Q's publications which described the contest - I believe that there were four different paint schemes to choose from (including an early simulated stainless steel scheme). This was the winner (with some modifications). These cars remained in suburban service late into the game. Rich G. In a message dated 3/7/2010 7:35:13 P.M. Central Standard Time, supplementless@yahoo.com writes: Can anyone tell me about this paint scheme? When was it used and what was it used for? I tried searching for information here but could not find any. Any info would be appreciated. _http://www.jerryapphttp://www.jhttp://www._ (http://www.jerryapp.com/arcv3a/ja-r270.jpg) [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
