Of all the BN GP7u's built in the mid-1970's only one came from a former
Burlington unit, that being the 1436 as seen here always making it a special
catch.

I did a bit of research and see the 1436 came from CB&Q GP7 227 originally
built by EMD in 1951. I have no information on its service on the CB&Q.
Hopefully someone here can fill me in.
After the 1970 BN merger it was renumbered BN 1583 and assigned to the Chicago
area where it remained up to the time of its rebuilding. As mentioned, in 1975
it was rebuilt to GP7u (GP10) 1436. The first time I saw the 1436 was 8-9-77
and by then it was assigned to the ex-NP shops at Auburn, WA until those shops
closed in the early 80's. I continued to see the 1436 from time to time so it
was still assigned to the northwest, probably Interbay would be my guess as the
photo is of it there in 1981. By the BNSF merger in 1995 the 1436 was still
working the area as I photographed it in April of 1998 at South Seattle. That
was the last time I photographed the 1436.
I have seen recent photos of the BN 1436 at Silvis, IL taken just last week and
it looks to be in cold storage, but still with BN markings. Nice to know it
hasn't been scrapped yet but I kind of doubt it will ever run again.
