Older CB&Q public TT's (& other RR's as well) list Banana Messengers along with Clergy & Circus personnel who had special passes or reduced ticket price forms available. Some older Q ETT's show exemptions on some frt train speed limits for silk & banana's (i.e. treated as passenger trains due to high value & perishable) In the good old days bananas (& oranges) were very expensive due to transit problems. Recall in Tom Sawyer one of the valuable items in his pocket was an orange peel (& of course Mark Twain grew up in a Q town - Hannibal!)
