I just picked up a Bachmann N Scale GE 44 Ton locomotive that I'm figuring to repaint for the Q. Burlington's locos were early phase 1s, and the model is of a later phase (3, I believe). I'm trying to decide how crazy to get as to backdating. One question, The early 44 ton locos had a single ladder roughly centered on a truck, rather than at the ends. All the drawings and photos that I've seen show the ladder to the left of the cab. The question is this, were they to the left of the cab on both sides, or were they both at the front, and the pictures I have are all from the left side? I also noted that some photos have the red/yellow sill stripe and some have zebra style stripes. I believe the zebra is later. Am I correct? When did they come in?
