We believe the sound files that were used for the 9900 to be correct. As I
understand it, the sounds were mostly lifted from the soundtrack of the movie
The Silver Streak. Because of the high speed nature of the train and the
relative quietness of the prime mover it was felt that the Bell and the Horn
(the Buck Rogers Ray Gun original) had to be markedly distinct from that in use
for steam locomotives.
A standard bell and horn were eventually mounted replacing the original
equipment, but at least at first that's what the Pioneer Zephyr was equipped
with. Don't know if it carried over to the 9901 and 9902 or what the Flying
Yankee were built with....

  To All:

A friend of mine has been working with a sound file for a sound decoder in a
HO scale Concor Pioneet Zephyr. The sound file he found has a unique bell. He
describes the bell as one similar to a fire alarm. I haven't heard it, but was
wondering if anyone knows if the real thing had a bell different to the bell of
modern diesels?
