Hi Bob,

I may as well share the whole story with you. Feel free to post
this on the CBQ list, and anywhere else this may have wound up. The
"BNSG" name is what fostered this. Credit goes to Ken M., Steve
Goen aka "texaszephyr" , Bryan Nelms, and Jim A. Howell.

I participate in a regional Yahoo Group named "RailSpot" where
a bunch of railfans mostly just bs back and forth with every 50th
or so message actually being useful info for chasing an interesting
subject. It's great fun. Anyway, one of those useful messages
happened to contain what some interpreted as a typo (BNSG), while
others interpreted it as history in the making. Below is a summary
of the discussion that occurred back on January 22/23, 2009.

I've been on a few railfan trips with Steve Goen, he's fun and
can be quite a character. With Steve Goen's detailed description
and Jim Howell's "Isn't it a little too early for a April Fools
joke?" comment, I just had to try.

Last but not least, the concept of BNSF doing "heritage" fleet
units as the UP has done is not a new idea, but of course as a fan
of the BNSF I'd like to see them do it *better*. Response to this
image in that spirit has been quite positive!

To quote the late, great Paul Harvey, "And now you know the
rest of the story."

Thanks,
Charles

Howdy,

Loaded coal Cordero Mine, WY-Mossville, LA train is headed
south on the Creek/Madill sub.

Fellow railfan Terry in Ada, OK says it just came through Ada
(0730 hrs) with the following consist:

BNSF 5928 ES44AC
BNSF 9406 SD70MAC
BNSG 9476 SD70MAC
BNSF 9163 SD70ACe

texaszephyr:

If you noticed from Ken's post below [above], the train's third unit is one
of the new BNSG units, recently acquired for the ever expanding fleet of
Burlington's New Steve Goen units.

All are painted in the "Q's" old blackbird scheme of black and grey, with
"Everywhere West" and "Way of the Zephyrs" proudly emblazoned on its flanks.

Ken M. (KE5VNF):

Howdy all,

If anybody gets a picture of the BNSG unit, send me a copy since I
let you know it was comin' your way:>)

Glad the BNSF is adding "heritage" units to their fleet:>)

texaszephyr:

As a matter of fact, Skip Waters tried to get BNSG 9980 as the power for
last summer's Quanah Zephyr NRHS special but it was still somewhere up in
Illinois at the time. LSBC said something about the BNSG units were all hot,
but I'm sure someone has installed an improved cooling system in them by
now.

bryan nelms:

Are you guys on a Bender or just off your meds........ .. :-)

Jim A. Howell:

Isn't it a little too early for a April Fools joke???
