>From the Museum:
The Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri, has recently undertaken a
year-long analysis of its railroad motive power,
rolling stock, and electric railway collections. As a result of that analysis,
several objects were deaccessioned from the
collections for one or more reasons including a lack of relation to the
collecting scope or mission or the presence of a duplicate
or similar item already in the collection. Those objects are now being made
available to other organizations. A PDF document with
information about the objects and the guidelines for submitting a proposal to
obtain them is attached.
We encourage proposals from organizations supporting the preservation of
railway heritage such as yours. If you have any questions
regarding the equipment or proposal process, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
Thank you, Molly Butterworth, Curator/Interim Director

Minneapolis & St. Louis #546
Builder: ALCO
Build Date: 1946
Type: RS-1
Later #213; 1,000 HP; not operational. Friction bearings. The RS-1 was the
first "true"
road-switcher locomotive ever produced. Originally operated by the Minneapolis
& St.
Louis, serving at the Burning Star 2 Mine and Kellogg Dock, this locomotive was
acquired by CONSOL's Truax-Traer Coal Division in the mid-1960s. It was donated
to
the Museum of Transportation in 1997.
Report is in 1993, during flooding, crew abandoned the loco while it was
running, and the engine is seized. Apparently the engine
was sandblasted when repainted so no trace of M&StL paint remains, but an M&StL
steam engine bell still exists on the RS1, as was
M&StL practice.
