To All,
Yes, Moorman is/was a feed company based in Quincy. They also owned Quincy
Soybeans. They had a mill in Alpha, where my mom worked as a bookkeeper.
As for smells, you should be in Linn Center on a hot summer day, when the
bloodmeal plant is online!

This packing house stuff which you have eloquently described was known in the
"trade" as PHP...Packing House Products...and was often designated as such as a
commodity grouping

Jeff,
It would be a load of dried blood from a packing house. It looks like its
headed to Moorman which I believe was feed company. You haven't really lived
until you've spent time in a packing house/slaughtering operation. Besides
hanging and packaged meat in reefers some of the other smelly products from a
plant are dried blood, edible and inedible tallow, hides, bone meal, urea, etc.
generally once cars go into packing house product service they stay there until
scrapped for good reasons.
More than once I came close to "Ralphing" while switching Swift at Rochelle
as some of these gems rolled past.
