Greetings All,

Pring CO was an AT&SF depot (MP 679.6) some 6.6 miles south of and down grade
from Palmer Lake.
Most trains passing Pring would be headed North on the Joint Line at this point.
C&S #28, the Gulf Coast Special, would have been heading North for Denver.
Employee Timetables of the 1940-70s list for Pring: sidings (80 cars) and other
tracks (20 cars) as well as water facilities and telegraph office.
The climb to Palmer Lake, for steamers, was reasonably arduous (approx. 1.4%
ruling grade in either direction) and it was not uncommon for the engine crews
to have to top up the tank, particularly in the days before tanks with larger
capacities were introduced around WWII.
The north bound segment of Joint Line Track between Crews/ Colorado Springs and
Palmer Lake was taken out of service around 1975.

Regards, Mark

I was just looking through Ed Fulcomer's Colorado & Southern Southern Division
this morning and noticed a couple of photos taken at Pring, CO. One is of train
#28 headed for Texas, so it appears to be on the Joint Line. Where and what is
Pring, CO? A siding?
