And lest we forget, depots varied depending upon the original builder of the
line. Most of the CB&Q was actually built by
predecessor companies, some affiliated with the Q, others not. Each had their
own idea of what was a proper or correct depot. And
many old wood depots trace their roots, their heritage back to the company that
built that stretch of railroad, not to the Q. What
was an approved design or even paint scheme for one section of the railroad may
not even match what was used in a different
section of the Q.
If I remember correctly this thread started with a question about Q depots in
South Dakota. But no one has mentioned which
predecessor railroad built the lines in South Dakota. It was not the same
company that built the lines in Illinois. So the depots
and the original paint schemes will be different.
