John,
You may wish to reread the RMC article.
When I wrote it, I used a lot of reference material from the CB&Q (as well
as its sister companies, GN and NP).
The information on size and placement of guard timbers, the length beyond
the bridge bulkheads of the guardrails data is also in a large table. I was
very pleased with the graphics that RMC prepared to illustrate the points I
wished to make. I pretty confident that the information you seek is there.
Best regards,
Dave Lambert

Subject: [CBQ] Bridge-Tunnel Guard Rail/Timber
I'm looking for information on the use of guard rails and timbers by the CBQ
for their bridges (open and through types) and tunnels. Railroad Model
Craftsman has an article in their May 2007 magazine but it has very limited
information on the Q. I have not seen any thing in BRHS bulletins, but I
could have missed the information. The period would be any time before the
1970.
