My friend John Weinhoft has the original build sheet for the "two" Checkers Big
Jim ordered for replacements of the governor's Cadillac limos. They were navy
blue A12E Checkers which were 9 inches longer than the standard A12, all in the
back seat area. One of them was kept in Chicago and the other was kept in
Springfield. Both cars were transfered to the Dept. of Corrections to
transport prisoners after Big Jim left office.
We have been trying to track them down but it appears they went to a junk yard
and at least one of them was crushed.

While this Checker wasn't part of the railroad operation, back when
Big Jim
Thompson was Governor of Illinois, he had a black Checker that was used as his
"official" Limousine. Imagine a black Checker with a "padded" vinyl roof and
fender skirts....
