If you want to view the Carthage, Illinois depot, the last remaining on
site depot in Hancock County of the CB&Q (one is still in Adams County
in Lorraine) on the Quincy to Carmen, Illinois line, then you better
get to it soon.
The roof is starting to fall in on the depot and it won't be much
longer before the City deems it a hazard and orders it taken down.
Still at the station is the loading dock. The old roadbed for a block
has been turned into a walking train. A telephone pole has fallen and
is laying against the north end of the depot.
The depot is located on the west side of town, just north of Main
Street, next to the Homestead Lumber yard. Main Street is one block
south of Rt. 136 on the west side of town, two block south from the
east side of town.
