It is interesting to note that in his Passenger Car Library Budd Vol.1 - CB&Q
Randall states that the
1602 Silver Post and 1603 Silver Page were originally intended to be named
Aeolus and Aurora. This
would indicate that they were to have run with the second TCZ consists.
Instead, ordered 8/45 but
not delivered until 1/48m they ran on the Empire Builder until 1952 when they
were transfered to the
rescheduled North Coast Limited. Apparently, according to Randall, they could
be seen on either train
as the schedules were close (???).
It appears that the earlier 1600 Silver Sheen and 1601 Silver Mail were not
regulars on the Twin Cities Line.
Thanks to Mr. DeRouin's book we can understand why US Mail traffic on the line
to the Twin Cities only warranted
a few RPOs and then not on the TCZ.
Most of the Q's RPO service was in heavyweights as CB&Q proper only had five
Budd cars with mail accomodations (not
counting the 9900 and 9903 power units and the C&S & FW&D cars):
1600 Silver Sheen and 1601 Silver Mail (1940)
1602 Silver Post and 1603 Silver Page (1948)
1604 Silver Pouch (1952)
C&S 320 Silver Tidings & FW&D 150 Silver Messenger (1940)
