The original H&St.J enginehouse is still standing in St. Joe.? It's last
official railroad use was for Motor carmaintenance, including the MTZ and PZ in
the 1950's as well as the motor cars used on the Creston and Chariton branches.

The building is now used by a construction co, last time I was by there a year
or so ago.? It's located just a bit SE of the old St. Joe UD site, north of
Monterey St...It's shows up in some of the Burlington photo books..If? you have
one of these tell me which one it is and? if I have it I can probably point you
to the page where its shown.

Pete

A friend from KC sent the following email. If you can answer any of his
questions, please reply to the list and I'll forward your responses. Thanks in
advance.

Bill: Recently made the acquaintance of Steve Olson of the Clay County Archives
and a couple of questions came up in regard of the Hannibal and St. Joe
Railroad. A stone monument was set near (they think) Chillicothe, MO to mark
the location of the "Golden Spike"on the H.&St.J. Chances are it was set in
1959 to mark the 100 year completion of the railroad. When the BN abandoned the
line in the 1980's, the stone was removed. Anyone know where it might have
gone? Also, does anyone know about any H.&St.J. building still standing in the
St.Joe area?

I was hoping you could post these questions to the C.B.&Q. Historical Society
and maybe get some answers or tips. The Sesquicentennial will be in 2009. The
KC NRHS might be willing or interested in some kind of program for then and I
would like to pass along any information to Steve Olson.
Thanks, Charlie
