It is with a broken heart that I'm writing to tell you that Jacob went to be
home with the Lord yesterday afternoon. We are sorry that we couldn't call
each and every one of you.
We were on our way to Diana's sister's home in Ottumwa, Iowa to celebrate
Christmas with her family. We had just headed north out of St. Louis and Jacob
started complaining that he did not feel good. We stopped two or three times
before stopping in Palmyra. Jacob lost feeling in his right arm, had a seizure
and lost conciseness. We called 911, an officer came almost immediately and
helped me get Jake out of the cars to start CPR. The rescue team came very
quickly and we headed to the Hannibal hospital, where Jacob was declared dead
at 2:16 pm.
We have spent the night in Hannibal and are headed to Ottumwa today and
Burlington tomorrow to be with family. Jake's body is going to Columbia, MO
for an autopsy to determine what happened. We will be flying back to Savannah
on the 1st to make all the final arrangements. The fact that we are so far
away and the holiday precludes us from making plans before then. We do know
that Jake's funeral will be in Savannah at our church. We will let you know
the details as soon as we have them.
