Into the 1950's when it closed, Allis-Chalmers Plow facility in
LaCrosse was served by the Q & Milw. This plant I believe was an
outgrowth of the old "Happy Farmer" tractor line. As for DRI&NW served
facilities in Quad Cities, since it was jointly owned by Q/Milw, the Q
(& then BN) operated over its lines. One of my favorite prototype
slides I have taken is 2 flat cars of combines, one in IH red, the
other JD green coupled together in a switching move on the DRI line in
a BN move.
If interested, I have detailed (3' x 8') drawings of the intricate
trackwork in Moline/Rock Island that I could bring to Oregon for the
Spring Meet. Also in the 60's JD issed a LP record album with a Q GP-
30 pulling a string of Q flats loaded with brand-new JD equipment. I
have an extra of there highly sought after albums (JD collectors!) if
anyone has something special from the Q to swap for it. Gerald
