John,
The Allied Full Cushion Trucks were prohibited in interchange by the AAR
effective September 1, 1959. Most railroads (including the Burlington on
these cars and their 8600-series express kitchens) had long before removed
these troublesome trucks.

Dave Lambert

Subject: [CBQ] CB&Q Box Car
I was leafing through a Model Railroader from October 1979 and noticed a
Paint Shop article on making a CB&Q box car from an Athearn 40' AAR kit. The
only modifications were CB&Q decals and Allied Full-Cushion trucks, same as
on troop sleepers. The cars were numbered 12000-12399 and were built in the
CB&Q Havelock, NE, shops in 1941. This would be an easy kitbash. What color
would the trucks be painted? Why were Allied trucks used in the first place
- what type of cargo? When would the Allied trucks no longer be used? I
model late 1940s and early 1950s.
