Clark Calvin was an early, turn of the century, Geology Professor at the
Univ of Iowa. He was also an amature photographer who often took his classes
into the field to photograph geological formations. Most of his photos are
glass slides, which he used in the class room or, I believe, did
presentations like travel logs. Many photos show quarries, brick and tile
works, coal mines, etc.
The Capitol City Brick & Tile photo was taken in Des Moines, Iowa.
The ballast train photo was taken at Maxon, Ia - location of the CB&Q and
M&StL interchange.
