Subject: [IlliniRail] Historic "Q" Trackage Removed

The out of service BNSF trackage in West Chicago east of the EJ&E was
finally removed by a contractor a couple of weeks ago. Specifically the
rail and a few ties on either side of Wood St. This was the
original "Q" line to access Chicago before building the "racetrack".
Trains would operate over the G&CU (CNW) to Chicago.

In later years this was used by the "BN Transfer", as we called it on
the CNW, to interchange cars with the CNW. I don't recall exactly when
the diamond over the EJ&E was removed, but it was sometime in the late
1990's.

Sorry to see the trackge go. I always thought the city should have
gotten their stuff together and made that area a park. The old "Q"
depot would have been close to it's original location(maybe the exact
location??)and they would have had tracks alongside it to put something
on static display. Oh well....
