Rupert,
Just a thought . . .
These cars were originally troop kitchens. The troop kitchens-as built by
ACF-had coal-fired stoves-for the preparation of troop chow. On the other
hand, several of the cars were retrofitted with freight car safety
appliances (side ladders, roof walks, etc.) for service as newsprint
haulers. I don't think that retrofitting included a stove.
Mike Spoor: any ideas?
Regards,
Dave Lambert

Subject: [CBQ] Express baggage cars
Amongst my notes on BE-1 express baggage cars (ex-troop kitchen cars) is a
comment from Steve Holding that 3 cars - 8660, 8829, and 8880 - were
equipped with stoves. Any suggestions as to why they had stoves and when
they might have been fitted.
Thanks
Rupert Gamlen
