Would this have been a forerunner of what came to be known in the 50's and
60's as a DF (Damage Free) car?
The DF cars IIRC had several adjustable "bulkheads" within the car that
could be moved longitudinally along rails in the roof and floor of the car to
"compartmentize" the load after, for example a "stop off" shipment was part
unloaded, or a shipment that didn't completely fill the car.
