  I believe that I read that the Q built the connection to the NP after the 
merger.  The Q at the time was interested in purchasing the G&O RR line to KC 
as a short cut for their St. Louis/E. StL traffic to and from KC.  After the 
merger they were told to drop this plan and purchase trackage right on the G&O 
and build the connection to the NP.
   
  The Q did get the trackage rights for 99 years and built a branch line from 
old Monroe to Francis(Mexico) MO. to reach the G&O (later the GM&O) line.
